Core Workshop: Abdominals, Pelvic Floor, Psoas, and Inner Thighs with Elizabeth April

Join Elizabeth April as we dig deep to build strength, awareness, and connection with our core. Think your entire trunk! We will spend time working through and discussing mat-based barre movements to access these muscle groups and learn why the balance of these areas is so important to the overall health of our pelvis and spine. Class will be done mostly low to the ground and accessible to all bodies, yet we will work deeply, safely, intelligently, and efficiently to create more stability and connection.

Clear communication from teacher to student during class is so important for many, many reasons when teaching movement. Creating a precise and even technical language for your classes will teach your students to work efficiently, safely, and with more integrity.

In this workshop we will learn…

  • how to organize your thoughts and cues.
  • begin to hone in to the specific area we want to move and discovering how to move one square inch of your students body with solely your words.
  • learn the safest joint of the body to move students from.
  • create not only single cues, but begin adding counter-cues to your repertoire.
  • start the process of getting off of your mat when teaching and give yourself the opportunity to truly look at your students closely, opening up the door to being more present in class.
  • can we teach the whys, anatomy, and alignment in class without getting to heady? It is possible, we will figure out how to layer these cues into your class without it being overwhelming to you or your student.

Join Elizabeth April for this 90 minute workshop, created for any teacher of movement. Workshop will be a combination of discussion and movement, wear your comfy clothes and bring a notebook if you wish!

Kundalini Rebirthing Workshop

IMG_3833.JPG

"The idea of rebirthing is to release the subconscious, the storehouse of misery."

Are you ready for a deep dive in subconscious cleansing? We will be practicing fifth Kriya from the the thirty-one Rebirthing teachings of Yogi Bhajan which utilizes the power of breathwork, movement, mantra, mudra, and meditation to penetrate the psyche, cleanse the entire system and strengthen the nerves. This class will include a deep relaxation to the sound of the gong. No prior experience is necessary. In fact, beginners are very much encouraged.

Heal the pain of the past and overcome the obstacles which keep you from living your best life - awakened, rejuvenated and present to your purpose.

She discovered Kundalini Yoga at a small studio in Kalispell, MT in 2004 and immediately fell in love with its powerful ability to facilitate transformation. She is the mother of two beautiful beings, a therapist, and energy work practitioner. Sonya works hard to maintain a daily yoga practice and encourages her students to do the same. Move Your Body, Return to Your Light

“The universe doesn’t hear what you are saying. It feels the vibration you are offering.” – Abraham Hicks

Many of us are feeling a shift in the world right now and a shift within ourselves. Many of us are awakening to the understanding that we are so much more than we have been taught. We are noticing when things feel right, when we feel expansive, when we feel our light.

We are all linked, more intimately connected than we may realize. We may be delving into our true selves, working to raise our vibration, and return to our own light.

The energies of the Earth are shifting, too. We are receiving energy (frequencies, messages, vibrations) from beyond our planet that are activating our DNA. Like a radio antenna that was broken in two, we are piecing that antenna back together to receive light, which is information. Through meditation, movement, and creative endeavors, we are re-wiring our brains to learn to listen to, and trust our inner guidance, our intuition, our spirit guides, teachers, loved ones, and creative Source (Spirit, God, Universe).

Returning to your light is not always easy; we are looking for new ways of interacting with the world (and the people in it), and with ourselves. In many ways, it can feel like we are grieving as we become more awakened. Feelings such as anger, sadness, loneliness, and calm may rise to the surface in ebbs and flows.

This workshop will delve into tools you can use through this shift. We will:
- Move our bodies, recognizing how emotions can be expressed through these movements
- Experience a guided meditation to identify emotions (and ego) in the body and transform that emotion into higher vibrations of hope & light.
- Create through writing reflection and sharing in pairs

Join Anne Davis, co-owner of Magnolia, and Rachel Horton White of Soulful Work Intuitive Consulting in this transformative workshop

Magnolia Basic Anatomy

Did you know that there over 600 skeletal muscles, 206 bones, 6 types of joints and thousands of tendons and ligaments make up the human body? Together, the muscles and skeleton (along with numerous other systems) allow specific movements at each joint allowing us to move (and shake!) freely during our beloved barre classes.

Join us for Magnolia Basic Anatomy to begin exploring the basic structure and function of our skeleton, muscles and supporting structures. Whether you are looking to deepen your practice, or become a more educated instructor, this fun and educational workshop is for you.

The Skeleton. In this session we will explore the framework that supports us reviewing the major bones and joints of the body and the various types of movements possible at each joint. This class takes ‘stacking your joints to a whole new level!’

The Core. You know we love to work the core in barre! And no, were not just talking about the abs. Come explore the muscles that not only hold us upright, but also hold in our internal organs and allow mobility of our trunk and spine. We’ll discuss ways to safely and effectively engage the core and yes, maintain neutral pelvis.

Thighs & lower leg. We LOVE thigh work (can you feel the shake already)?! But did you know the thighs include so much more than the ‘quads?’ And what are the quads anyway? We’ll explore the large and powerful muscles of the front and inner thigh as well as the smaller, but equally important muscles of the lower leg.

Shoulders & arms. What is the rotator cuff anyway and why do we vary the position of our hands while working biceps and triceps? Come explore not only the beefier muscles that cap our shoulders and define our arms, but important stabilizing muscles that help position the joint safely in place and prevent injury.

Hips and Hamstrings. FACT- the gluteus maximus is the biggest muscle in the body! And that’s just one of the THREE ‘glute’ muscles that assist in a variety of movement at, and stabilization of, the hip. We’ll also review what lies beneath exploring deep muscles that support and rotate the hip. Finally, we’ll explore the hamstring muscles along the back of the thigh.

Chest and Back. We’ll review these important opposing muscle groups and discuss ways to overcome common imbalances. These important and powerful ‘push’ and ‘pull’ muscles are so much more than just the commonly known pecs and lats.

The Wren's Nest - Barre & Yoga Fusion: Core & Pelvic Floor

Join Elizabeth April as we dig deep to build strength, awareness, and connection with our core and pelvic floor.  We will spend time working through mat-based barre movements, as well as yoga postures and breathwork to access these muscle groups.  Connecting abdominal (especially transverse abdominals) work, inner thigh work, and breath and how it relates to the pelvic floor is important when regaining and maintaining strength as we age and/or after childbirth.  Class will be done mostly low to the ground and accessible to all bodies, yet we will work deeply, safely, intelligently, and efficiently to create more stability and connection.

Elizabeth is a mama to two young boys, born 20 months apart from one another.  Connecting to core and strengthening the pelvic floor after babies was a journey of discovery and consistent work.  She believes that the relationship with your core and pelvic floor can exist deeply even if you might be feeling like it may be impossible to access again! She is also a yoga and barre teacher in Portland, Maine.

The Wren's Nest - After School Yoga for Young Teens

Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

As adults, we know how yoga can help us meet both the mental and physical challenges which life brings.

Young teens are at a period of their life where they meet significant physical and emotional development along with growing responsibilities. It is a time where they form their sense of self as well as their hopes and aspirations for the future.

The goal of this yoga series is to act as a bridge between childhood and adolescence.  The practice of yoga will provide them with tools to help them understand what’s going on, giving them time to step back from the everyday, and helping them see themselves and their bodies better in the context of their new reality. It is our hope children in this program walk away with an understanding of:

  • The importance of taking care of themselves (and signs they need to)
  • Positive ways to channel emotions and energy
  • Teamwork and appropriate ways to ask for help
  • Poses, breath work and mindfulness activities to make their body and mind feel good

Class runs in a 4 weeks series ($50). Drop ins ($15) are welcome after we have met our minimum enrollment. Enrollment will be capped, please register early.
